![]() | Our Logo Jesus called the Apostle Peter a rock upon which he would build the church. The rock that Jesus was speaking of was the confession of Peter that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God." (Matthew 16:16-19). Jesus told the disciples that he would build the church upon this confession, that is that Jesus is the Messiah, sent by God to save the world. It is Christ that the church is built upon. He is the rock of our faith. Through Christ - his perfect life, death on the cross, and resurrection - we are assured of a right standing before God, forgiveness of our sins and eternal life! CHRIST is the Key to our Salvation!! (See the article below for passages and more detail.) |

Christ is the Key to Eternal Life!
What comfort we have that Christ is still in control and that our eternal security is taken care of. He has sent the Holy Spirit who connects us through God's powerful means of grace, the Gospel in Word and Sacrament, to Christ's salvation by faith. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives faith to believe. Through his connecting us to Christ we have that absolute certainty of eternal life. How precious, how amazing!
Jesus went to the cross to take on our sin and to suffer the wrath and anger of a holy God. But the Lord assures us that this was his plan from the beginning. In Jesus' work, we are assured that we stand righteous, holy, without sin and qualified for heaven and living with a holy God. Here are some of the passages that give me comfort: (press the passage to pull up a new window with the passage in its context).
- Hebrews 10:10,12,14 - 10) And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 12) But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. . . . 14) because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. [Here the writer to the Hebrews shows how it was God's plan that Christ come to be the perfect sacrifice for us. We are made perfect forever through his sacrifice.]
- Revelation 1:4-6 - Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, 5) and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6) and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (Wow! What powerful words of our Lord. We are priests of God, serving him now. All this is through CHirst and Christ alone, since we are sinful. But through Christ, God declares us justified, holy and righteous!) Also note Revelation 1:17-18 - When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18) I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." [This is Jesus giving believers in him comfort. He is our Redeemer and Comforter!] - Other passages that point to what Christ has done for us and declared is our in Christ = Isaiah 53, Romans 3:21-26; Colossians 1:9-23; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Peter 1; 1 Peter 2:4-9; Romans 5:17-21. There are so many other references. God wants us to be certain of what he has accomplished for us through Christ and to be certain on account of Christ, not what we have done. Yes, our lives are so very important to God, and now motivated by Christ's love for us, we want to put this love into practice, but we dare not depend on our lives for certainty, but always go back to what Christ accomplished for us. God demands perfection. We have perfection through Christ and Christ alone. To God be the glory!!
